Our Story

Blessed Bisons is a student-founded organization at the Howard University School of Law that is dedicated to helping alleviate food insecurity for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Washington, D.C., area by connecting Howard professional students to the greater D.C. area. The organization takes inspiration from HOPE MINISTRIES, founded by Veronica Mentor in 2018, to tackle the issue of food insecurity in Gainesville. Blessed Bisons' founder, Ama-Birago Fosu, was an active member of HOPE MINISTRIES. In 2024, she began the work and created a team to bring similar philanthropic efforts to the Howard University School of Law by uniquely connecting law students to other Howard graduate professional students through monthly service. Blessed Bisons became an official Howard University Student Organization in Spring 2025. The seed sown that spring has blossomed into monthly feedings in partnership with SOME and other nonprofits servicing individuals experiencing homelessness.
